MAU live

Do not hang back from involvement in addressing the problems of the world, waiting to become an expert. You are expert enough. Take your part in the great dramas and the great struggles now still in their opening acts in this world. It is the part where you storm on stage with a confused but mischievous look and the audience cheers you madly. Don't wait to know the part too well, or the moment will pass without you.

As a mother acting up, you will have millions of opportunities to share MAU with friends, neighbors, strangers, and groups you are a part of – from book groups to faith circles. Here are some ingredients that may be useful in spreading the Word of MAU. The most important thing to remember – before every speech or event – is that you’ve already succeeded. As Stacey Carkonen, MAU Heroine, said the morning of her first Mother’s Day parade (a truly inspired way to spread the word): “I am so proud to be standing tall, speaking loud, and getting down with all of you. Whether there are 2 people or 200 (at our parade), there is no way to fail when one person raises their voice to bring dignity to another. We, my friends, are indeed a force to be reckoned with!

Two-minute speech; good for elevators & playgrounds:
Hi. I’m part of Mothers Acting Up, a movement of mothers publicly and passionately advocating for the world’s children. In our current world, almost one out of every two children lives in poverty and a child dies every 3 seconds from preventable causes; Mothers Acting Up works to unite mothers (and others) into a natural and powerful lobby for children. MAU offers a positive activism that focuses on moving toward our vision of ensuring the health, education and safety of every child. MAU holds parades, rather than rallies, organizes Girlcotts rather than boycotts (still using economic strength to create change — by supporting businesses whose practices are aligned with our values) and walks on stilts to symbolize mothers getting REALLY visible on behalf of the world’s children.
MAU offers programs to move from concern to action — including: Take Action, the Handbooks for the movement; Reclaiming Mother’s Day events; and MAU Live!
Visit the MAU website for more information, inspiration, tools and actions, and to order the MAU Handbook for the Movement.

You can structure your presentation around: the MAU Vision Statement (engaging & theatrical), the MAU Principles, how MAU got started or a current news item that relates to MAU. Include children, food, humor, and someone on stilts if appropriate (is it ever NOT appropriate to show up on stilts?) Contact the reigning Queen of MAU Presentations for further support.
