Just as asking people to dinner has the side benefit of getting your house cleaned, hosting an event gets you MEDIA COVERAGE!
Hosting events and showing up at other people’s public gatherings are opportunities to reach people you might not otherwise. Plus, they are very fun and children LOVE them (always great to impress future leaders in the exuberance of activism!) Events can be organized around Reclaiming Mother’s Day or not – whatever inspires you. Here’s the secret about public events: they are a veritable honey pot for the media. If you have someone (children?) in costume, you have a photo in your paper. There are many forms your celebration can take – a parade, potluck, block party, table at your local grocery store encouraging others to ACT UP, or a gathering in your favorite park. It is of vital importance to create an event that inspires you!
Mother’s Day events are dedicated to reclaiming the day as it was originally envisioned in 1870; a day when mothers would gather to protect the lives of our human family. After the Civil War Julia Ward Howe wrote in her journal, “Why do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters, to prevent the waste of that human life that they alone bear and know the cost?” In order to gather mothers together, she wrote a “Mother’s Day Proclamation” entreating women to “Arise!” to protect the lives of our children. These events are intended to inspire, educate and engage your local community to move from concern to action on issues confronting children worldwide.
Private Gatherings
Create an event for friends, family and/or coworkers to build the passion and momentum of local leadership (children DEFINITELY included.)
These could be picnics, teas, or lunches OR take over a book group gathering!

to our dailylife i pray for all to be safe and know if you put your mind on what you
