This week MAU highlights reusable bags because you won’t BELIEVE the impact of this very specific—seemingly inconsequential—choice. This is a perfect example of how a small change of habit can have a huge global ripple effect. As MAU’s Principle #3 states: We need to measure the true impact of our actions—our consumption, energy & trade policies and national security strategies—not only by how they affect our children, but children everywhere. Including sea turtle children!
So, raise a glass and toast the glorious benefits of change, as represented by reusable bags.

For the past two years I have been actively working to reduce the amount of plastic I use, especially plastic bags – it actually is not all that hard to just keep a stash of sacks in the car (yes, I live in Ohio, they’re ‘sacks’) and carry them in, use them, and then get them back into the car. It’s just another habit to work on building! Now I get so frustrated when I did not plan to shop, and end up with a bag to haul home, and I’m working to train the family.
The other big deal is that clerks in stores give me far less grief than they used to – I think the stores have begun to figure out that reusable bags help them on the ‘bottom line’.
