It’s keep your eyes on the prize day. Remember these beautiful words: The day that hunger is eradicated from the earth there will be the greatest spiritual explosion the world has ever known. Humanity cannot imagine the joy that will burst into the world.– Federico Garcia Lorca
Now add a few beautiful words of your own. Keep your commitment to end hunger alive by writing it down. Now write what actions you’ll take to manifest your commitment, balancing direct aid and systemic change (MAU Principle #4). Ideas for taking two-handed action:
- Direct aid: Donate monthly to a spectacular org–like World Food Program.
- Long-term systemic change: Sign up for MAU’s daily actions and receive opportunities to influence & shape policies impacting children.
- Get educated & share inspiration: Join tomorrow‘s Tweet Chat about ending hunger. Special Opportunity: representatives from World Food Program will be on the chat from ROME (and we don’t mean Idaho, no offense … ) Join tweetchat.com at 1pm ET/12pm CT/11am MT/10am PT. Enter MAUact after the hashtag (#) and start tweeting. (Extra credit if you’re actually from Rome, Idaho. Or Rome, Kentucky.)
- Collective Action: Invite others into the conversation: pass on MAU’s daily actions, tweets and/or FaceBook posts.

My daily action is to tell everyone about Jeremy Seifert’s important documentary Dive! Living off America’s Trash (http://divethefilm.com/). On his website he has a call to action to help stop the waste of food in the U.S. at the grocery store level. Organizations like Food Runners in San Francisco and all the food banks can’t do it alone!
I am a member of Rotary International, the Carnegie-Collier Rotary,#7300 in Carnegie, Pa. 15106. We are part of a new national effort to feed the hungry by packing a rice based meal which feeds 6 people for about 12 cents/serving.
It’s done by local volunteers who also donate $25.00 each to help pay for expenses. We pack about 60,000 meals at each 2 hour session with about 100 volunteers.. We’ve had six sessions so far. I would encourage you to join this movement. Please email me for more information if you’re interested.
We distribute these meals locally and and also in cooperation of the Greater Pittsburgh Food Pantry. Anyone can join and it’s growing.
