Alix Monty with her daughter Aurora and mother Leslyn Wiese, powerful field-trippers all! Not pictured is Alix's partner, Josh Porter, who was also on the trip.
Alix Monty is one of the brave MAU mavens to respond to the “Tell Us About Your First” widget on the MAU homepage, and wrote that her favorite MAU action was her family’s field trip to their Representative.
My mother and I are MAU mavens in Tempe, Arizona. Last fall, we took our kids and my partner on a fieldtrip to the office of Representative Harry Mitchell. We had a great dialogue with his district aide about several children’s issues. As a parent who has travelled internationally twice to adopt, my mom has some insight into the lives of orphans and vulnerable children. My partner is a daddy & teacher, and he was able to talk about standardized testing and problems within the public schools. The kids contributed by creating posters about the Millennium Development Goals. It was a powerful discussion. The district aide was happy to tell Representative Mitchell about some important pieces of legislation concerning children. My family was thrilled to know that their stories and their values would make a difference in Washington. I will definitely do this again.
